Now that many of us are working from home, socializing has become next to impossible. We have to make a conscious decision to engage with others, whereas before it was just part of a day to day activity. Most importantly, we have to keep the lines of communication open, especially when it comes to our co-workers. Having activities for your employees, whether through zoom meetings or via email, has become an important and fun way to keep socializing (and our spirits) up.
Here are a few ideas to help keep your employee’s morale moving in a positive direction:
- Online Bingo. Whether they admit it or not, just about everyone loves playing bingo. It’s an easy, cost-effective way to keep a company feeling like they are part of something, together. Create a list of words for each participant to choose from, have them fill out their bingo cards, and then each day read off one or two words until a Bingo is called. Have a little prize for the winner(s).
- Quarantine Scavenger hunt. Pinnacle did this one with the company and it was a huge success. Come up with a list of items (we did 30), some of which are easy to find and others that are more difficult to hunt down. Have your employees send in pictures of the items to prove they found them. Have a deadline (we did a two-day deadline) and then the employee with the most items wins. We gave a gift card to our winner.
- Zoom Happy Hour. You don’t have to use Zoom; any video app will work for this. Get your employees together for a virtual happy hour. Enjoy each other’s company outside of the workday, and you can easily have a virtual pub trivia game to go along with the happy hour. Gather up teams of 2 or more and ask trivia questions. The first person or group to answer all the questions correctly wins! This is a great team-building experience as well since it will create great conversations throughout those participating.
There are many activities being created to help with employee morale while being quarantined. This is a difficult time which most of us have never experienced before. It can be stressful for everyone involved. Make sure to take time to help your employees feel close again. Laugh a little, tell stories, shout out a bingo, find some cool items, and bring everyone closer together again.
