1. Up-to-date, easy to find contact information
At this point, you’ve got your customer hooked. You’ve lured them in with wonderful photos and an engaging story of your business, the products/services you sell, and what your company stands for. Your call to action statement has convinced them that you are the business to buy from and they are ready to give you a shot.
Except…neither your phone number or email is anywhere to be found. Worse yet, you recently moved to a new office and your old business address is listed instead of your current one. Your social media accounts aren’t linked to your page either.
This is a problem.
It may sound silly that there are small businesses who do not have their current contact information listed throughout their websites, but it is more common than you think.
Your goal as a business is to increase sales by making it as simple as possible for customers to buy from you. By not having up-to-date contact information readily accessible, you make this much more difficult, if not impossible.
Place your current phone number, email address, social media accounts, and physical address in the footer of each page. In the header, be sure to at least include your most preferred way to be contacted (usually phone or email).
2. Mobile/tablet Friendly
Smart phones and tablets are increasingly taking over a larger percentage of worldwide web traffic. According to some studies, nearly 53% of worldwide internet traffic comes from mobile devices.
Because of this, it is becoming more and more important for a small business’s web presence to be optimized for viewing on smart phones and tablets, known as mobile optimization. Mobile optimization refers to the process of creating webpages that can be viewed and interacted with easily on consumer’s smartphones and tablets. What does a mobile friendly site look like?
- Larger text – your text will stand out with a zoomed effect, making it easier to read
- Mobile friendly navigation – easily navigate page to page with just the tip of your finger
- Touch friendly buttons – buttons are easy to find and select, plus one-touch buttons for calling your business or viewing its location
Work with your web developer to create a mobile friendly site if you don’t already have one. They will be knowledgeable about what elements are needed in the site and how to implement them. A website that can be properly viewed and interacted with is critical for reaching customers who are on the go.
