Employee Recognition – a little goes a long way

Did you know recognizing your employees isn’t just a nice thing to do, but it can have a positive and productive outcome as well? Recognizing them for small deeds as well as the big ones is equally important and a great way to sustain your employees’ motivation. Consider giving meaningful gifts or tokens as rewards that also show a personal connection, or presenting awards in front of others to help make it special and honor them. In turn you will see the motivation of your employees increase, adding to larger production value.

When you recognize employees, you reinforce actions and behaviors that strengthen your business foundation and since most employees want you to see them as a team player, often times they will go out of their way to impress you. Why is this? It’s simple really, the more positive feedback, the more their self-image grows and the more positive an employee will become. More positivity equals harder work and overall higher production.

It’s important to make sure all your employees are eligible for the chosen recognition and make sure you let your employees know what’s expected in their performance in order to receive such an award. It’s also important to give the recognition shortly after their performance has reached the desired requirements.

Ways of showing your employees they matter and are doing a good job can range from a handwritten thank you note detailing exactly why they are being recognized, to a gift or certificate given at a ceremony. Be creative and keep it fresh and above all else, remember that it may take some money to recognize your employees, but their production and positive attitudes will contribute to a wonderful outcome for both business and employee.
