What is SEO and Why Do I Need It?

SEO. We hear this all the time around the office. We hear how great it is and how improving our SEO will make our products that much better on search engines. That’s awesome and everything but do you really know what SEO means? First of all, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Now, that alone can be a mouthful and a brain buster. By breaking it down to a simple recipe, you will know exactly what it takes to achieve the highest level of SEO mastery.

Using SEO in our daily business life can help us transform our products and services into a trustworthy searchable result. Just like a recipe in the kitchen, SEO has special ingredients that it needs to gain the trust and credibility from search engines such as Google and Bing.

First, when you create a website understand that everything you write on that site matters. The content matters. Search engines account for everything on the website. Google also enjoys user friendly sites that incorporate images. Keep this in mind when creating your business site.

Second, titles matter. You may never see these because page titles are hidden in the code. They are behind the scenes working their magic.

Third, links matter. If you link to other pages outside of your website on your website, this will look good to other search engines.

Fourth, when you do link to other sites on your website, the words used in those links also are important. For example, if a person searches for a word that is linked in your website, search engines will detect that and narrow down trustworthy results for that specific person. Your website could be one of those results.

Lastly and most importantly, search engines care about reputation. If your site has a consistent record of fresh and updated content and a combination of the other ingredients, you will begin climbing the search engine ladder, gaining views and credibility every day and before you know it your site will be on the first page and moving its way up to first in line.

These are the basics to get you started and on the right track to SEO mastery. Remember, reputation matters.
