What makes a great leader? What qualities matter to you? In the words of John Quincy Adams, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Can we believe this is true in the workforce today?
It is important to have a strong, trustworthy leader to motivate you and your team to accomplish what we may see as the near impossible. As we strive to reach our goals we would like our leader to hold a few specific qualities which are extremely important within the work setting.
Here are just a few skills and qualities of a good leader.
- Communication: It is important to communicate not only with one another on your team, but with your boss as well. If you are having an issue that may need a little extra attention, it can be crucial to communicate the details with your manger so he or she can help you and the rest of the team reach a solution.
- Honesty: Being honest with your team members is important, however it is your manager’s responsibility to be honest with you. From addressing an issue to giving praise, a manager’s honesty can make all the difference to the team as they move forward to greatness.
- Commitment: In any season, your manger should be committed to you, your team, and the work at hand. This will make your job easier as everyone is trying to reach a common goal. Meeting a deadline, or simply coming into work at the same time every day, can change the level of commitment by a few ounces and drive the success of the team to the top.
The possibilities of skills and qualities are endless. The individuality a leader has is what makes each of them great. Communication, honesty, and commitment are just a few of great potential choices that we have to describe a manager. Now it’s your turn, what do you believe makes a great leader?
