1. Write a subject line that relates to the content of the message

2. Include a greeting & closing lines

3. Notify the reader of any attachments and the file name
– compress/zip large files you attach
– save in universal file formats like: pdf or jpg
– notify reader of large or multiple emails

4. Create a professional work email address
– don’t use work email for personal use
– create professional and easy to read signatures
– don’t use fancy fonts or multiple colors

5. Keep yourself protected, follow safety guidelines
– don’t send personal information like social security or address information
– be cautious when opening emails you don’t recognize
– update you virus scanners when prompted
– don’t open attachments unless it’s from a reliable source
