Pinnacle’s Perfect Recipe for Advertising #6 – Photos and Illustrations
What do you notice first – an ad that’s all text or one that has a photo in it? If you are like most consumers, even the simplest logo can really help your ad stand out from the rest. Make the most of your ads by using interesting, relevant photos or illustrations.
– Grab Attention –An image can say a thousand words, and when you are trying to fit all your content in your ad space an image can help tremendously. It’s not only images that can grab your attention, sometimes even one word or a question in large print can cause your potential customer to take a closer look. Don’t underestimate the power of color, especially in our day and age, where everything around us is trying to grab our attention.
– Capture Emotion – What do you want your customers to feel when they look at your ad? Here are some examples of the type of emotions you pull on when you are designing your ads: Panic would be a good emotion in a pest control ad, showing bugs everywhere and letting them know that you have a solution to their problem. Another emotion would be excitement in a party store ad, even using bright bold colors that make it seem loud and fun. A final example would be calm and relaxing emotion for a spa ad, showing very calming and soothing colors and soft images. Finding out what emotion you want to portray to your customers will help pull your whole ad together showing your customers that it’s your business that serves their needs.
– Show Your Uniqueness – Even the smallest difference in color, tagline or image between you and your competitors will help your business stand out in the minds of potential customers. Think of it as a caricature of your business; you magnify your prominent features in a creative way that will cause customers to take a second look. Make sure it’s relevant to your business, being different is good, but make sure you don’t get to far off track and lose your customers all together.
